Lost Posts #6: Musical Adventures with Chauncey

Well, it's kinda cause I'm good at forgetting, kinda because I'm good at trying to to do too much, and part preservation.

What's that' you're talking about Kilometres?

I'm talking about Jon-Rae and the River. Chauncey and I went to see them recently at the Grad Club. It was just before the spur of the moment trip to see the Decemberists actually.

Jon-Rae and the River were a surprise. They were the kind of live show you need to see when in University. They started out well enough. They were entertaining and pleasing to behold. You instantly noticed the back-up singer. The back-up singer kept tossing her hair this way and that, flinging sex all through the audience. It's okay, we didn't mind.

The audience of Jon-Rae (and perhaps most Grad Club shows) were like little bearded Pavlovian dogs. The bearded folk seemed unable to remove their eyes from her. I even had to comment on it.

But back to the music. Cause the music is where it was at with this show (enticing as the singer may have been). The show slowly pulled you in with its infectious energy; an energy that slowly surrounded you. Suddenly with the start of the song Roll, it hit me. This band is super fun! I was suddenly bopping along and enjoying myself far more than I thought I would.

Jon-Rae continued with their on-stage party and I was hooked! If they come through your town, make a point of seeing them. Your ears will thank you.

It wasn't until recenltly when I was perusing some of my favourite music blogs for the latest and greatest, that I stumbled upon a site with an Jon-Rae mp3! Other people were basking in their goodness!

Well that was all the encouragement I needed. Here's some shoddily done vids I took while there. Please enjoy them and think about falling in love with Jon-Rae. And hey if they're not your thing, at least consider falling in like with them.

I'd also like to happily report that I was thanked on YouTube for posting these. Evidently the small Kingston community that attended the show had fellow YouTubers. It's so nice to have positive feedack and not hosebags telling me to stay off of YouTube because my park fighting is gay...
